Dr. Paul Koch, University of Wisconsin, needs golf course superintendents to help with a study this winter. See below and I hope many of you jump at the chance to conduct some research at your golf course. The results could be impactful with regard to winter injury of sand-based golf greens. Derek

The project is a USDA-funded project and includes a large team of researchers from numerous universities as well as Norway. They need golf course superintendents from a broad geographic area to collect data for one day a week during the winter. The goal is that 200 superintendents will collect data.

Dr. Koch writes, “Myself and a team of researchers from around the country and Norway are working to better understand the environmental factors that lead to winter injury on golf courses. We’ve been working on this effort for a while and recently found out that we will be getting funding from the USDA to move fully forward with the project. One of the central parts of this project is to collect data on winter conditions from as many golf courses as possible…which is where you come in. I am writing to ask if you can help collect basic data on your course 1 day per week during this upcoming winter of 2021–2022. This project’s success depends on high levels of participation from golf courses in cold climates throughout the world, so I am hoping you will be able to help.” You can read more about this request here.

If you are able to collect data, here is a link to the survey I will need you to fill out to indicate your willingness to participate: https://survey123.arcgis.com/share/4b0e96f69d924b1ea07c13fa4e1c8b0a

Thank you for considering this request and please contact me with any questions you have. Paul Koch, Ph.D., University of Wisconsin, 608–262–6531
